Why convert a PNG to JPG

PNG stores every pixel exactly, which is perfect for logos and screenshots of text but wasteful for photographs. A photo saved as PNG is often five to ten times larger than the same image as JPG with no visible difference. Converting is the quickest way to get an email attachment or an upload under a size limit.

Keep the PNG if the image has sharp text, flat colour, or transparency you need. Convert to JPG if it is a photograph or a screenshot you just need to send.

What happens to transparency

JPG cannot store transparency at all. Anything see-through in the PNG has to be filled with a solid colour, so QuietFiles lets you choose white or black rather than picking silently and surprising you with a black halo around a logo.

Will converting PNG to JPG lose quality?

JPG is lossy, so some information is discarded. At the default quality the difference is invisible on a photograph. On a screenshot of text you may see faint smudging around letters — raise the quality slider, or keep the PNG for that kind of image.

How much smaller will the JPG be?

For photographs, typically 70–90% smaller. For flat-colour graphics the saving is much less, and occasionally a JPG is larger than the PNG. The results list shows both sizes so you can see the actual change before downloading.

Are my images uploaded?

No. The conversion runs in your browser using the standard canvas image encoder. Your files are never transmitted, and the page is served with a security policy that blocks it from sending them anywhere.

Can I convert a folder of PNGs at once?

Yes. Select or drop as many as you like. They convert in parallel and can be downloaded as a single zip.
