Why your photos stay on your device

Every other converter with this name in its URL asks you to upload the file first. Camera-roll photos are about as personal as a file gets — they carry faces, homes, children, and a GPS coordinate in the metadata. QuietFiles decodes the HEIC and writes the JPG entirely inside this browser tab. No copy is made anywhere else.

How the conversion works

Safari can decode HEIC natively, so on an iPhone or a Mac the conversion uses the system decoder and downloads nothing extra. Chrome, Edge and Firefox cannot, so QuietFiles falls back to libheif compiled to WebAssembly — the same decoder, running in your browser instead of on a server. It only downloads on the browsers that actually need it, and only after you pick a file.

What is a HEIC file?

HEIC is the high-efficiency image format iPhones and iPads use by default. It saves storage space, but many apps, websites and Windows PCs cannot open it — so converting to JPG makes your photos work everywhere.

Are my photos uploaded to a server?

No. Every photo is decoded and converted inside your browser. Nothing is sent to a server, nothing is stored, and no one — including us — ever sees your photos.

Does converting HEIC to JPG reduce quality?

JPG is a lossy format, so there is a small change, but QuietFiles converts at a high quality setting that keeps the result visually identical for viewing, sharing and printing. You can raise the quality slider if you want to be certain.

Can I convert HEIC on Windows or Android?

Yes. Because the conversion runs in your browser, it works on any modern browser — Windows, macOS, Android, iPhone or iPad — with no app to install.

How many photos can I convert at once?

Does the JPG still contain my location data?

No. Re-encoding through the browser’s canvas produces a clean JPG without the original EXIF block, so GPS coordinates and camera details do not carry over. If you want to strip metadata without changing format, use the Remove EXIF tool.
