What a PDF quietly records about you
Open a PDF’s document properties and you will usually find the author’s name, the application that produced it, and the exact times it was created and last modified. The name is often a real one — a Word install configured years ago, or an account username — and it travels with every copy of the file.
For a CV sent to an employer, a document shared anonymously, or a contract passed to a counterparty, that is more than you meant to send. This tool clears the title, author, subject, keywords, creator, producer and both timestamps.
What it does not claim to do
This removes document-level metadata. It is not a redaction tool: text that is visibly on the page, content hidden under a black rectangle, or data embedded in an attached file all remain in the document. Genuine redaction means deleting the content itself, not covering it, and no metadata cleaner can do that for you.
Questions
Which fields are removed?
Title, author, subject, keywords, creator, producer, creation date and modification date, plus the document’s XMP metadata packet where present.
Does this redact text in the document?
No. It removes metadata about the file, not content on the pages. Anything visible in the document stays visible, and text hidden beneath a shape is still in the file.
How can I check it worked?
Open the cleaned file in any PDF reader and look at document properties or information. The author, title and producer fields should be empty.
Is my document uploaded?
No. Cleaning happens entirely in your browser.
