Why WebP is worth the switch

WebP typically produces files 25–35% smaller than JPG at the same visual quality, and it supports transparency, which JPG does not. For a website that means faster pages and a better Core Web Vitals score; for storage it just means less of it used.

Every browser in current use reads WebP. The only caution is outside the browser: some older desktop applications still do not, so keep the originals if the images also need to be opened in legacy software.
